The aritist's intention is of a voyage of visual discovery that is as affecting as were the discoveries made the great Eighteenth Century artist naturalists such as John James Audubon and Mark Catesby. In forming her collections of works Janet Waring is being true to her artist haturalist background having obtained her degree in botany from Manchester University before her artists training in Florence, Italy. the great historic artist naturalists documented animals that are now extinct, Janet Waring instead envisions animals and
plants that have never been seen before, each subject the only one of its kind. In Janet Waring's 'Ark' the birds entered one by one, each individual an extraordinary fantasy. These are works that represent a determination to chronicle one by one those fantasies, informed by nature, that have populated the artist's mind over a period of some 25 years.
